Meet Our Sisters

"When the Sisters from St. Benedict's established an independent community here in Bismarck, I was in the first class to become postulants. It was a thrill then and continues to be a thrill to this day"

I was born in Breckenridge, MN, but at the age of three our family moved to Wahpeton, ND and I lived there along with my sister, (who later became Sister Millicent), my brother and my parents. Ours was a happy home filled with a lot of creativity, faith and music. These continue to fill my life.

It was in the third grade that I began to play the violin and piano. In eighth grade it was the organ, and I started playing at the church that year when the music teacher, a Benedictine Sister from St. Benedict's Convent, went home for retreat. Throughout my years with the Benedictine sisters as teachers at St. John's Grade School and the Franciscan Sisters for private music lessons while a student at Wahpeton High School, I had my eye on them and was edified by their lives. I went to the College Of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, to pursue a major in music, but also kept wondering about religious life.

When the Sisters from St. Benedict's established an independent community here in Bismarck, I was in the first class to become postulants. It was a thrill then and continues to be a thrill to this day. I taught elementary music for 37 years and have had so many talented students from Mandan, Dickinson, and Bismarck. I have always been active as a parish organist, choral participant, and lover of music.

Presently I am a parish visitor at St. Mary's Parish and Med-center One Medical Center. I play the violin in the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony and have been active in that since 1980. Creativity, faith and music continue to be important to me. At this point in my life, I am most appreciative of community and the prayer we share together. We grow and support and adjust over and over with the changes of the world and the church, but God holds all together.
