Annunciation Monastery to Host Federation of St. Benedict - July 17-22, 2012
Welcome Sisters from Around the World!
The Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery, Bismarck, hosted the
tri-annual meeting of the Federation of St. Benedict, a congregation of ten member monasteries from the United States, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Japan and Taiwan, from July 17-22, 2012.
The title of this gathering of 40 Benedictine sisters, including prioresses, delegates, guests, speakers and officers of the Federation of St. Benedict, is “Enflaming the Hope Within Us.”
Sister Nancy Miller, prioress of Annunciation Monastery, will welcome the gathering at the opening ritual the evening of July 17. “It is a privilege for our monastic community to host this meeting of Benedictine sisters from around the world,” says Miller. “We value this blessed opportunity to come together and draw from the wisdom and culturally rich perspectives that better prepare us for the way we serve the world today and into the future.”
According to Sister Susan Hutchens of St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, Illinois, and president of the Federation of St. Benedict, the gathering not only conducts the business of the Federation, but also provides the opportunity for these sisters to work and share together on topics of interest. Presentations will include the topics of hope in life and in the Church, and the culture of vocation and formation in monastic communities today.
